Capsule Geology

The Atna occurrence is located approximately 3 kilometres northeast of Shedin Peak and 67 kilometres north of Hazelton (#300 on Map 69-1 ).

Regionally, the area is underlain by clastic sedimentary rocks of the Middle Jurassic to Upper Cretaceous Bowser Lake Group, which have been intruded by granodiorite of the Upper Cretaceous Bulkley Plutonic Suite. Hornfels and calc-silicate skarn is developed in the contact area of the intrusion.

Locally, a molybdenum-copper showing is reported (#300 on Map 69-1 ). The plotted location of the Atna occurrence corresponds roughly to a zone that referred to as the Utah showing in 1967. The Utah showing is described as comprising a porphyritic granodiorite with local intensely kaolinite-altered zone and narrow quartz veinlets and fractures with molybdenite mineralization.

In 1967, bulk sampling of three trenches on the Utah showing is reported to have averaged 0.02 per cent molybdenite and 0.015 per cent copper (Property File 812847).

In 2013, a float boulder sample (RX397314) of potassic-altered granodiorite with quartz-sulphide veins, located approximately 800 metres to the northwest of the plotted location of the occurrence, assayed 0.438 per cent copper and 0.013 per cent molybdenum (Assessment Report 35139).

In 2014, a grab sample (RX398029) of brecciated siltstone with disseminated sulphides from the Atna occurrence area assayed 0.342 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 35139).

Work History

The area was covered by the Atna group of claims and was optioned by Canadian Superior Exploration Limited in 1967. The Atna property extended from the western end of Sicintine Lake to the eastern slope of Shedin Mountain. Trenching was reported to have been performed at this time.

In 2013 and 2014, Vale Exploration Canada Inc. completed a program of geological mapping, geochemical sampling and a 3278.0 line-kilometre airborne magnetic survey on the area as the S2 property. In 2017, an induced polarization and magnetotellurics survey was completed on the property.
